Last week we introduced you to a young woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was in college. Talking about your breasts in public as a young woman can be embarrassing, and doing it as a famous person is downright unheard of, at least until recently. But young women are also getting breast implants, though fewer are willing to admit it. The decision whether or not to have breast surgery is one that you, and possibly a parent, have to decide on with the help of a doctor. There are many reasons that women have these procedures, and more young women than ever are undergoing them.
Parents are often shocked to hear how comfortable their children appear to be with the idea of surgery. But as a recent survey revealed that over half of 18 to year-olds think reality TV and social media have a negative impact on how they view their bodies - it is not unusual for teenage girls to toy with the idea of going under the knife. A plastic surgeon has explained how there are often underlying issues affecting a young person considering breast augmentation. Naveen Cavale, a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon at King's College Hospital, has advised parents to keep calm and discuss the topic - rather than completely dismissing the idea.
But I feel like this is one of those subjects that needs to have a little conversation. Especially since there are so many young people getting plastic surgery now-a-days. I have an ass.
I got a breast reduction when I was seventeen years old. While all of my friends were jetting off to the beach on vacation, I was being put under general anesthesia and my mother was signing waivers agreeing to the procedure. Let me rewind. Fast-forward a few years, and by fourteen, that 34C became a 36DDD. I was not ashamed of my body and carried on about my business as usual.
